QuillTide is a very big desktop app made by one person who loves books and got fed up with creative software treating writers' work like free robot food.
how this started
QuillTide started with one slightly unhinged idea: what if the writing, planning, reading, designing, organising and publishing tools all lived in one place, and none of them fed your work to an AI?
Turns out that's a lot of app. I'm building it anyway. It's the place I wanted to work in, where writers write, readers read, and the software helps out without trying to become the author.
no, really, one person
QuillTide is made and maintained by one independent developer. There's no software company behind it and nobody with a pitch deck asking about growth.
That means I get to make odd decisions, tell you exactly what's going on, and actually talk to the people who use the thing. The ideas list keeps getting longer. Some of those ideas are good. Some came out of Discord at 1am and are being considered anyway.
It's a solo project and it acts like one. You'll be able to tell, mostly in a good way.
Every room in here exists because some part of writing, reading or making a book needed it. Nothing got added just to look good in a screenshot.
QuillTide uses no AI. Your words, your art, your terrible first drafts. All yours, every one.
If the whole software industry is sprinting toward something, I'm probably walking the other way with a book.
the group chat helps
I write the code, but I don't decide everything alone in a dark room. Bug reports, sharp feedback and gloriously chaotic feature requests from the early community keep steering where this goes.
